Smart Station

#Back to School – #E-learning

Students are Back to school; a good number of them schooling online. Their screen time continues to be on the higher side. As parents, we have managed to provide them with the best device possible, with good performance and decent storages levels. Students 2020 are now in the know-how of managing themselves well during their online classes.

Laptops, 2-in-ones, tablets are all excellent devices with some of them having the state-of-the-art features and add-ons that would go a long way in supporting our student community.

  1. What alternatives could probably improve their e-schooling experience while designing a suitable space at home?
  1. Do all students need a laptop or tablet or any portable device?

Not necessary unless they have a routine of carrying their laptops/tablets to school for notes or other academic references. For others it is not necessary to carry their learning devices around the home.

What does medical science say?

Way back in 2006 the European Journal of Public Health had estimated Daily use of computers exceeding 2–3 hours could cause Neck and shoulder pain and a daily usage exceeding 5 hours could cause for Lower back pain. (European Journal of Public Health, Volume 16, Issue 5, October 2006, Pages 536–541, https://doi.org/10.1093/eurpub/ckl025 ).

Today we have progressed (hmm… actually, I should say regressed) with various names like computer neck and back syndrome, tech neck syndrome, text neck etc. It may be a good idea to make your children develop correct posture habits that the doctors suggest.

Apart from taking scheduled breaks and performing quick stretches of neck and shoulder ETC. They also always prescribe maintaining a correct seating posture.

Consider giving them a cool smart study station.

Consider upscaling their study desk with some really cool gadgets that even the teens would love. May be then, they would not mind giving up their hand-held tablets or laptops.

The first in the list is certainly the compact, palm sized Mini PC, mounted back of your monitor and easily fits into your small table. It promises a simple set-up, maintenance and yet goes easy on power. Accessorize it with a relatively big screen, a WiFi keyboard and mouse, Hi-tech speakers and cool looking mics (microphones). And for the final touch, make sure to add a comfy chair that provide proper ergonometric posture to your child.

There are a multitude of that stuff that would be added. The list stops only where our imagination stops – or may be where your pocket demands you to stop. If you require further ideas/suggestions feel free to leave me a Query and I shall revert to you.
